Thursday, April 19, 2012

Facilitators:

  • John Hartke, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army, Professor of Photonics, Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, United States Military Academy
  • Jeanne L. Narum, Principal, Learning Spaces Collaboratory

The LSC Webinar on April 19 will focus on renovating spaces for undergraduate STEM learning.

The process of planning the renovation of the Science Center at West Point (Phase I recently completed) will be described.

  • Learn about their goal of "making science visible:" how they arrived at that goal and achieved that goal.
  • Learn about how a new model of learning spaces--the 'classaotry'--evolved during their planning and examine some the new classotories at West Point.
  • Learn about how the faculty (and cadets) are adjusting to the new spaces.
  • Learn what they learned from this first phase of renovation that will inform subsequent phases.
  • Gain insights about modest steps toward renewing spaces, whether or not a major remodeling project is in your immediate future.
